This course is taught by our Director of Biomedical Sciences, Kate Mousel.

Mrs. Mousel taught Biology, Honors, Biology, PLTW Biomedical Sciences, and AP Biology, and served as the

Huntsville City Schools Lead Life Science teacher before joining the Much Is Expected Team. 


While students may register for individual Units of Study, 
participation in all sessions ensures coverage of the high school biology curriculum.

Hands on Activities and Labs are included each week. Several exciting field trips are planned.

Session I:The Nature of Science: Mondays & Wednesdays; 1:00 – 2:30; 9/5/18 – 10/15/18; Topics covered include: Scientific Method, Chemical Basis of Life, pH, Proteins,  Enzyme Activity, and passive/active transport.

        

 Cost: $215.00 + $15.00 Lab Fee

Session II: Metabolism: Cellular reproduction and Mendelian Genetics: Mondays & Wednesdays; 1:00 – 2:30; 10/22/18 – 12/5/18 (no classes 11/19 or 11/21 – Thanksgiving Break); Topics Include:   Energetics, Photosynthesis, & Respiration, mitosis/meiosis and mendelian genetics.

Cost: $215.00 + $15.00 Lab Fee


Session III  :Molecular Genetics and Technology: Mondays & Wednesdays; 1:00 – 2:30; 1/7/19 – 2/18/19 (no class 1/21/19); Topics include: DNA, RNA, Protein Synthesis, Bacteria, Viruses, and DNA Technology – Students will complete a DNA extraction.   

Cost: $215.00 + $15.00 Lab Fee

Session IV: Ecology, Protista, Fungi, & Classification: Mondays & Wednesdays; 1:00 – 2:30; 2/25/19 – 4/3/19; Topics include Ecosystems, Food Webs, Food Chains, Human Impact, & Classification Using a Dichotomous Key. Students will isolate bacteria and conduct a Gram Staining Lab.

Cost: $215.00 + $15.00 Lab Fee

Session V: Plants & Animals: Mondays & Wednesdays; 1:00 – 2:30; 4/8/19 – 5/22/19; (no class 4/10/19 or 4/22/19); Topics include: Biological Symmetry, animal behavior, vascular & nonvascular plants, monocots & dicots, flowers, & fruits. This session will include field trips and/ or lab field experiences as well as a dissection opportunity.

Session IV: Waves, Sound & Light, Electricity, and Magnetism:

This course is taught by our Director of Engineering Programs, Mike Evans. Mr. Evans,a 26-year veteran educator, introduced, developed, and implemented the advanced manufacturing program for Huntsville City Schools. He worked with Greenpower United Kingdom and served as CEO for the GreenpowerUSA Foundation facilitating the implementation of Greenpower in the United States. Mike coached a Greenpower team of local students and led them to recognition on the international stage. He has served on multiple committees for the Alabama State Department of Education assisting with curriculum development, course of study design, and creation of the statewide junior college articulation agreement.

Studentswill be introduced to 3D modeling and technical drawing concepts using Siemens PLM Solid Edge 3D Modeling Design Software. Students will each receive a copy of the software.

Geometry:  This course is taught by our Director of Secondary Mathematics, Laura Blumer.  Mrs. Blumer taught Geometry, Algebra, Pre-Algebra, 8th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math and served as the Academic Meet Coordinator for Huntsville City Schools before joining the Much is Expected Team. 

While students may register for individual Units of Study, participation in all sections ensures coverage of the high school geometry curriculum. 

Class Size Minimum:  8, Class Size Maximum: 15

Session I:  Geometry Basics, Proofs & Reasonings:  Mondays & Wednesdays; 10:45 – noon; 9/5/18-10/15/18; Topics Include:  Points, Lines, Planes, Angles, Intro to Proofs and Basic Constructions.  Algebra review is embedded throughout the course.  Cost:  $187.50

Session II:  Parallel & Perpendicular Lines, Congruent Triangles, Relationships Within Triangles:  Mondays & Wednesdays; 10:45 – noon; 10/22/18 – 12/12/18 (no classes 11/19 or 11/21 – Thanksgiving Break) Topics Include:  Special Angle Pairs, Proving Triangles Congruent, Midsegments, Medians, Bisectors, Indirect Proof, Multi-Step Constructions.

Cost:  $187.50

Session III:  Polygons & Quadrilaterals, Similarity, Intro to Right Triangles and Pythagorean Theorem:  Mondays & Wednesdays; 10:45 – noon; 1/7/19 -2/18/19 (no class 1/21/19); Topics Include:  Angle-Sum Theorem, Quadrilateral Definitions & Properties, Similarity, Right Triangles, Pythagorean Theorem.  Cost:  $187.50

Session IV:  Right Triangles & Trigonometry, Area:  Mondays & Wednesdays; 10:45 – noon; 2/25/19 – 4/3/19; Topics Include:  Pythagorean Theorem & Converse, Special Right Triangles, Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, Area of Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles & Regular Polygons.  If time allows, Transformations will be covered.  Cost:  $187.50

Session V:  Geometric Solids and Circles:  Mondays & Wednesdays; 10:45 – noon; 4/8/19 – 5/22/19 (no class 4/10/19 or 4/22/19); Topics Include:  Surface Area and Volume of Geometric Solids, Tangents, Arcs, Chords, Angles in Circles, Circle Equation.  If time allows, Probability will be covered.  Cost:  $187.50
